US President Donald Trump has denied that he will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on May 9. According to anonymous sources cited by the French weekly news magazine Le Point on Friday, Trump might go to a parade in the Russian capital to commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War—a term used in Russia to refer to combat on the Eastern Front during World War II.
Trump denied the media claims when asked in the White House on Friday if he planned to travel. Additionally, Trump was questioned regarding a possible minerals agreement between Washington and Kyiv submitted by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent in February to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
In what US officials are referring to as restitution for prior military assistance, the agreement would give the US a 50% share of any profits made from Ukraine’s natural resources and rare earth minerals.
Yes, I believe we are fairly close. I believe they desire it. It makes them feel good. And that’s important, it’s a huge deal, but they want it, they’re thrilled about it, and it keeps us in that country,” Trump stated.
