There will be no meeting between US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and High Representative Kaja Kallas during her official visit to Washington. Due to scheduling conflicts, the High Representative “will not meet Secretary of State Marco Rubio on this occasion.” Her spokesman told Euronews that they had last met at the Munich Security Conference.
The meeting was scheduled on Wednesday, and news outlets anticipated seeing pictures from the two-way discussions. According to the spokeswoman, Kallas will continue to meet with members of the US Senate and Congress to talk about the transatlantic partnership and Russia’s war against Ukraine.
In anticipation of meeting with her counterpart, Kallas had flown to the U.S. capital to discuss Donald Trump’s effort to begin talks with Russia and Ukraine, which has shook European allies due to its unorganised and biassed approach.
The High Representative has been critical of the White House’s strategy, advocating for close participation from both Ukraine and Europe in the fledgling diplomatic process and characterising the concessions made to the Kremlin as a sort of “appeasement.
In announcing the meeting with Secretary Rubio on Monday, Kallas stated, “I have been very clear that no deal will work in practice without us, without Ukraine, or without Europe – and that is for the United States, which also needs to work with us.
