As member states try to unite and fortify their unified stance in response to Donald Trump’s disruptive drive for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia, Hungary has emerged as the primary obstacle for the European Union.

Transatlantic relations have been upended by Trump’s plan, which was started without consulting Western partners. It has also heightened concerns that Ukraine may be pressured into a highly unfavourable agreement that would seriously jeopardise Europe’s long-term security. The American president’s use of Russian-sounding rhetoric, such as referring to Volodymyr Zelenskyy as a “dictator without elections, has made people even more uneasy.

European countries are attempting to catch up and develop fresh ideas that can strengthen their military and financial support for the war-torn country while keeping a close eye on the Kremlin, as events are unfolding at an alarming rate.

In a Friday radio interview, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán stated, “We believed that the US would see the fall of the Democratic administration and the inauguration of a Republican government under Donald Trump, which will promote peace and stimulate the economy.”

Péter Szijjártó, his foreign minister, has threatened to thwart the extension of EU sanctions on Belarusian and Russian individuals, which encompass almost 3,000 individuals and organisations deemed culpable in the war of aggression.
